Five UCNI-affiliated specialists were featured in the new Best Doctors magazine issues: from left, John M. Tew, MD (trigeminal neuralgia), Paul Keck, MD (mental health) Christopher McPherson, MD (brain tumors), Sid Khosla, MD (voice disorders) and Ronald Warnick, MD (brain tumors).

CINCINNATI–Sixty-seven specialists affiliated with the University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Institute (UCNI), one of four institutes of the UC College of Medicine and UC Health, are included on one or both of the 2013 regional and national lists of leading physicians.

In December Cincy magazine published the names of 531 area physicians who are listed in the 2013 Best Doctors in America® national database, which includes more than 45,000 physicians in more than 40 medical specialties.

In January Cincinnati Magazine  published its 2013 listing of Top Doctors who practice in the eight counties that make up the Greater Cincinnati region (Hamilton, Warren, Butler, and Clermont in Ohio; Boone, Campbell, and Kenton in Kentucky; and Dearborn in Indiana). The list includes 750 physicians in 43 specialties.

Earlier in 2012, 24 UCNI physicians were named to the U.S. News Top Doctors directory, developed by U.S. News & World Report in collaboration with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., publisher of America’s Top Doctors®.

UCNI leaders congratulated those who were named “top doctors” while praising the dedication and superior abilities of all physicians associated with the Institute. “We recruit the best, brightest and most innovative clinicians, which means all are among the very best in America,” said John M. Tew, MD, Clinical Director of UCNI. “In addition, because UCNI doctors share a commitment to collaboration and evidence-based medicine, they are not only aware of the latest research and technologies, they are more often than not helping to create them.”

“The UCNI team of physicians, nurses, therapists and technicians strive to deliver the very best care for our patients, day in and day out,” said Joseph Broderick, MD, UCNI’s Research Director. “While the ‘Best Doctor’ designation is one marker of our excellent physicians, the appreciation and recognition from our patients in the office and at the bedside is what we value most.”

The Best Doctors® database of physicians is based on a biennial peer-review drawn from surveys of tens of thousands of leading specialists who were asked whom they would send a loved one to for treatment in their specialty. Cincinnati Magazine developed its Top Doctors list by sending surveys to more than 5,000 area physicians with current medical licenses and asking them whom they would turn to if they, a family member, or friend needed medical care. Doctors who received at least five votes from their peers were included on the list.  Cincinnati Magazine did not list doctors who practice hospital medicine, such as hospitalists and neurointensivists.
